In dieser Skulptur verwandelt Dalí das klassische Klavier in ein surreal tanzendes Wesen. Anstelle der Holzbeine tragen weibliche Beine mit Stiefeln und Rüschen den Korpus – ein Spiel mit der Belebung unbelebter Dinge, das sich durch Dalís Werk zieht. So wird das Instrument zugleich Musiker und Tänzer.
Eine vergoldete Frauengestalt in Ballettpose verleiht der Komposition Eleganz, während die fransigen Petticoats des Klaviers eher an ein Tanzlokal erinnern – ein reizvoller Widerspruch. Inspiriert von der Pariser Musik- und Tanzszene der 1920er-Jahre griff Dalí das Motiv des Klaviers immer wieder auf, in Gemälden wie auch in Installationen.

Salvador Dalí
Salvador Dalí, born in Figueras in 1904, is considered one of the leading minds of surrealism and one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. Around 1929 he found his own style, which explored the world of the unconscious and dreams. With melting clocks and burning giraffes, he created iconic images that show his technical skills in an old-masterly style. Common themes in Dalí's works are intoxication, fever and religion, with his wife Gala often playing a central role. After an eventful life that took him from Spain to the USA and back to Europe, Dalí died in 1989, leaving a lasting legacy in the art world.
