Gernot Kissel, born in Worms in 1939, discovered his passion for painting at the age of 18. His works, characterized by strong contours and bright colors, especially his beloved red, combine sensual representation with modern reduction. Kissel painted with intense expression, often using his thumb to breathe life into the color. His wife Sonja was not only his most important model, but also his harshest critic. He lived and worked in the Palatinate until his death in 2008.
